For years Hoek van Holland has been host to a very special shelter for years: bird shelter ‘De Houtsnip’ (Woodcock). Wounded wild birds are brought here to get well. The shelter regularly organizes open days. These days often have a theme and are announced in local media.

Several volunteers work at bird shelter ‘De Houtsnip’. Thanks to donations the shelter can continue its work. Everyone who loves animals can work here. Also, when you are training for animal keeper, or applying for a volunteer internship when in secondary school, you can turn to them.
