The Fortress is located in the former armour fortress of Hoek van Holland. At the time it was built at the New Waterway for the defence of the Rotterdam area. In the over 100 years old construction you can make a journey into the past and the many decorated rooms will give you a sense of life and work in the Fortress from 1889 to 1970. Soldier rooms (1890) and meeting rooms of the Dutch Cabinet (1940) can be viewed.
Group tours are possible throughout the year, by appointment. The Fortress is also suitable for children’s parties. In ‘Gasterij Barbara’ you can enjoy a drink; lunch or buffet is possible as well, by appointment. In the Fortress shop you will find an extensive collection of books, military items and souvenirs. The ground floor is suitable for bad walkers.
